New Tools Developed to Facilitate Students Study and Career Choices
On February 20, a seminar was held at Tartu Vocational College to summarize the outcomes of the project „Tools and techniques for a better choice of profession”. As part of the project, boardgames and a digital test were created to assist students in making study and career choices. Additionally, the partners developed a handbook that introduces learning difficulties and potential methods for adapting learning.
According to Helen Johanson, the head of the Tartu VOCO support center, the created games serve as tools for counselors. For example, the Chosen Choice cards help learners discuss their preferences and attitudes. A dice game allows them to think about the connections between professions and values. Moreover, the board game “Journey to Vocational School” helps players discuss educational choices while also providing knowledge about various professions. Johansson emphasized that although each game has instructions, the counselor can always adapt and creatively use them.
The seminar aimed to provide practical knowledge to school career counselors and teachers and to introduce new tools that schools can use to help young people make informed learning and career choices. Experts from the support center explained how to support learners with learning difficulties in vocational education and introduced changes in vocational education and the VOCO admission process. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and explore the school’s workshops during the campus tour.
The seminar offered plenty of useful information and inspired participants to apply new approaches in career counseling. All materials created as part of the project are available on the project’s website and can be downloaded by anyone from HERE.
The project “Tools and techniques for a better choice of profession” was co-financed by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program.
