Hydrogen – a future topic in excellent vocational education for sustainable development (VESD)
Hydrogen is a future-oriented topic with great potential for excellent vocational education and training (VET) in the context of sustainable development. As a key element of the European energy transition, particularly in the form of green hydrogen, it plays a crucial role in climate protection, renewable energy systems, and sustainable mobility. Integrating hydrogen into vocational education supports both environmental goals and the modernization of VET systems across Europe. Thats why twelve partner organisations across Europe came together.
Objectives:
The main aim of the Network of Excellence is to bring together vocational education and training centres to establish a regular and structured dialogue on excellent vocational education for sustainable development (BBNE). Through cooperation and exchange, the network seeks to strengthen European awareness and identity, promote democratic values such as respect and appreciation, and further develop future-oriented vocational education using hydrogen as a concrete and highly topical example.
Main Activities:
Within the network, partners engage in continuous dialogue and exchange of information on vocational training related to sustainable energy sources, with a particular focus on hydrogen technologies. Various learning arrangements at different qualification levels are developed, presented, and discussed. These activities support best-practice learning and contribute to the adaptation of vocational training systems to changing market conditions and technological innovation. Special attention is given to preparing hydrogen-related skills for teaching purposes and aligning them with different levels of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF/EQR).
Expected Results
As a result, the network raises awareness of hydrogen’s importance for the energy transition and supports its practical implementation in vocational education. Teaching concepts and learning arrangements facilitate the integration of hydrogen into classroom practice and curricula. The exchange within the network strengthens the qualification of skilled personnel, which is essential for the successful implementation of a European hydrogen strategy. Ultimately, the project contributes to the development of innovative, future-ready vocational education systems that support the transition to renewable energy and sustainable development across Europe.
